LAM launches new Cape Town and Lisbon routes

LAM’s inaugural flight from Maputo landed in Cape Town on Tuesday, which the airline says is part of its strategy to be a “strong competitor in the region”.

LAM has undergone a recent restructuring process and is currently expanding its routes and connections. Also launching on Tuesday was its Maputo-Lisbon flight, the first of a number of inter-continental routes it is currently eyeing.

Kenya Airways’ Nairobi Mogadishu flights to resume

Kenya Airways will resume twice-weekly flights from Nairobi to Mogadishu, starting on February 14.

Julius Thairu, Chief Commercial and Customer Officer of Kenya Airways, said the reintroduction of flights would encourage trade and ease the movement of tourists as demand rose among businesses and travellers.

SAA finally says g’day to Down Under

SAA has unveiled details of the return of its direct flights to Perth. The start date is to be April 28, and it will operate three flights a week.

Bookings opened yesterday.

The Perth route is an important one for South Africa – currently traffic from South Africa to Australia most often goes with Qantas on the only direct flights available, via Sydney, which takes Perth-bound passengers an extra 3 300km (around three hours’ flying time) to the east coast. They are then obliged to fly the 3 300km back to Perth.

Ethiopian Airlines to fly daily to Toronto

Ethiopian Airlines is to boost the frequency of its flights between Addis Ababa and Toronto to daily from April 1.

Currently, the airline operates five direct flights a week on the route.

The outward flight will include a technical stop in Rome-Fiumicino for refuelling. Flight ET552 will depart from Addis Ababa at 22:35, arriving in Toronto at 08:20 the following day. The return flight, ET553, will be non-stop, departing Toronto at 11:00 and landing in Addis Ababa at 07:00.
