Zambia Airways Heads for Johannesburg

Zambia Airways (ZN) has spread its wings into South Africa.

From June 1, flights will be five times weekly on Monday, Tuesday, Thursday, Friday and Saturday. From July 1, they will be daily.

On Monday, Tuesday, Thursday and Saturday, ZN0305 departs LUN at 07h00 and arrives JNB at 09h00. The returning flight, ZN0304, departs JNB at 09h45 and arrives LUN at 11h45.

On Friday, ZN0305 departs LUN at 13h30 and arrives JNB at 15h30. The Friday returning flight, ZN0304, departs JNB at 16h15 and arrives LUN at 18h15.

Regional airline, Proflight Zambia, received its first 126-seat Boeing 737-500 aircraft last week, to accommodate its growing flight frequencies.

The Boeing 737 is the third aircraft Proflight has added to its fleet since emerging from the COVID-19 pandemic last year.

Its fleet now consists of eight aircraft: three 50-seat Bombardier CRJ-100/200 jets, three 29-seat Jetstream 41 aircraft, one 18-seat Jetstream 32, and the B737.

Malawi is about to get considerably more airlift, providing a welcome boost to its tourism industry.

Airlink, the privately owned South African domestic and regional carrier, is to launch new routes between South Africa and Malawi’s two main cities.

The airline will start operating flights between Johannesburg and Lilongwe from September 4, and Blantyre from September 5.  

This will make Malawi the 16th country to be included in Airlink’s comprehensive route network. It will use its 37-seat Embraer Regional Jets on both new routes, which will operate three times a week.

Ethiopian Airlines launched its new route between Addis Ababa and Atlanta on May 16, its sixth destination to North America, according to airspace-africa.com.

It now offers four flights a week between Addis Ababa and Hartsfield Jackson Airport, operated by a Boeing Dreamliner with 30 seats in business class and 285 in economy.

Departures from Addis are scheduled for Tuesdays, Thursdays, Saturdays and Sundays at 10h00, to arrive in Dublin at 04h20 the next day. The flight continues 50 minutes later after refuelling, landing in Atlanta at 09h00.

Return flights leave Atlanta on Mondays, Wednesdays, Fridays and Sundays at 10h35, flying direct to Addis Ababa and landing the next day at 07h50.

BA expands African services
BA expands African services

The number of British Airways flights from London to African gateways has been restored to pre-pandemic levels and the airline is now expanding its services to the continent.

BA operates daily flights from Heathrow to Abuja, Accra, Nairobi and Lagos and double-daily services to Johannesburg. It also offers an expanded double-daily service to Cape Town over the city’s summer peak season, reverting to daily in winter.

Now, the carrier has announced a new route from Gatwick to Accra, starting on October 29, bringing the total number of weekly flights between the UK and Ghana to 10.

In addition, it has added a new route to Egypt, Sharm El-Sheikh, and doubled the number of flights to Cairo.

Eswatini Air has launched its first flights to Cape Town.

The inaugural flight took place on Friday, June 2.

The route will initially offer three flights per week on Wednesdays, Fridays, and Sundays, with a carefully planned schedule to cater for both leisure and business travellers. The route is between King Mswati III International Airport and Cape Town International Airport.
