Proflight relaunches Lusaka-Durban route

Regional airline Proflight Zambia has relaunched its direct Lusaka-Durban route with twice-weekly flights starting from April 2023. The route was cancelled in 2020 during the COVID-19 pandemic.

From April 6, flights to and from Durban will start on Thursdays, and Sundays will be added to the schedule from April 16. Flights depart Lusaka from Kenneth Kaunda International Airport at 09h00, arriving at King Shaka International Airport at 11h30. The return flight leaves Durban at 12h30, arriving in Lusaka at 15h00.

Qatar Airways is bolstering its growing network with additional frequencies to the southern African region, including more flights between Doha and Lusaka and onwards to Harare.

The airline now flies daily on the route, up from three flights a week.

Emirates is going all out to meet the demand in the local market for travel from South Africa.

On February 1, the carrier reintroduced its second daily flight from Cape Town. With the addition of the new service, the airline has fully restored its operations to pre-pandemic levels. There are, once more, fourteen flights on the Dubai-Cape Town route.

Cathay Pacific has announced the long-awaited news that it will resume flights between Johannesburg and Hong Kong in August.

The carrier pulled all its flights from South Africa around November 2020 when COVID started to bite deep. It said at the time it intended to restore the services in March 2021. Now, after more than two years of absence, Cathay Pacific is to return to South African skies.

Airlink will restart scheduled services between South Africa and Madagascar after they were suspended for almost three years.

The resumption of flights linking Johannesburg with Antananarivo follows the lifting of Madagascar’s COVID-19 travel restrictions and a ban on air services to and from South Africa.

Emirates rolls out more JNB flights

Emirates will add a third daily flight to Johannesburg from Dubai starting on March 1. The existing two daily flights, both currently operated by Airbus A380s, will downsize to a Boeing 777-300ER.

“This will increase our total frequency into South Africa to 42 weekly flights,” Emirates Regional Manager, Afzal Parambil.
